Come Hang at Our Blake Mills and Pino Palladino Listening Party in L.A.
On August 27, Hearing Things goes bicoastal with a listening event and live Q&A presented with legendary jazz label Impulse! and L.A. hi-fi temple In Sheep’s Clothing.
Blake Mills and Pino Palladino are among the best in the world at their respective instruments: Mills is a guitarist whose delicate touch and impeccable note choices can be heard on records by Bob Dylan, Perfume Genius, Feist, and more; Palladino is a bassist who’s lent subtle melody and sturdy rhythm to everyone from D’Angelo to the Who. On August 27 in L.A., we’re co-hosting a soiree to celebrate the release of That Wasn’t a Dream, their second album as a duo, together with Impulse! Records and hi-fi hub In Sheep’s Clothing. It’s free, you just have to RSVP.
The event will feature a listening session on a beautiful sound system along with a live Q&A with Mills and Palladino moderated by our own Andy Cush. That Wasn’t a Dream is a collection of instrumentals that span spindly funk to contemplative folk-jazz, all neatly pitched between high compositional sophistication and jammy, easygoing rapport. It’s the kind of album to which earbuds and streaming bitrates are a grave disservice. We’ll be doing it justice alongside the mindful folks behind In Sheep’s Clothing, which is a destination for crate-diggers and audiophiles as well as an archival label, a record club, and an online repository of information about rare and obscure music. We’re delighted to partner with both ISC and Impulse!, the label behind some of the greatest releases in jazz history, for this very special night. We hope to see you there.
