In light of D’Angelo’s passing at age 51, each of us wrote about one of our favorite songs by the R&B icon. He famously did not release a ton of music in his lifetime, so every track—every hook, bassline, and divine vocal harmony—holds a heightened significance. Nothing was wasted in a D’Angelo song, and each one felt like it offered a clue to the mystery of the human condition.
