The Five Most Overrated Albums of 2026 (So Far)
Others frothed over these. We did not.
Welcome to the latest installment of Five Albums, the weekly feature for paid Hearing Things subscribers in which we review a handful of new records catching our attention. This week, we’re deviating from our normal format to check in on five albums we consider some of the year’s most overhyped so far.
Because life is finite, we at Hearing Things prefer to spend most of our time listening to music we like or love, and recommending that music to you. But that also means we’re poring through every release we can, sifting through the albums we consider duds and, sometimes, watching incredulously as said albums become touted as unfettered brilliance. Do we hate all these albums, or any of them? Not necessarily. Do we think they are not all they’ve been cracked up to be? Absolutely! Welcome to our biannual edition of Five Overrated Albums—in which we discuss some of the most celebrated albums of the year, and why everyone is wrong about them.
